What do the Feathers in An Indian Headdress Mean

Everybody is in awe of the Indian headdress. It is a beautiful piece that has been making waves in pop culture in the recent years. But do you know what an Indian headdress means? There is a story behind every feather that you see tucked in this exquisite work of art.

Traditionally, men from certain Native American tribes earn a feather for every brave act they accomplish. These feathers usually come from whatever bird specie from the area they are living in, although the eagle is the ideal, most revered bird of all. A feather from the eagle means that they will be protected by the spirit of the eagle as they accomplish even greater feats of valor.

Most mean can only acquire 3 to 4 feathers in their lifetime, but the most daring ones are able to collect enough for an entire headdress. The feathers are not just an embellishment in the piece, each one is a story of blood, guts and glory that the wearer has put in to rightfully earn the Indian headdress.
